Like a Victorian Madame
It’s hard to look at the entire Empress range and not instantly be inspired by the power of the bold reds and blacks. Even if you are just looking at this one piece in particular, I would recommend you have a gander through the rest of the Empress range as it’s such a uniquely built collection. I am a big lover of Basques, mainly because it covers and gives a little extra hold to my tummy, which is a sensitivity of mine. So, I always gravitate towards these kinds of pieces. And then I find myself trying to find work-arounds for getting hooked into them solo. Mostly I try to hook it up at the front and then twist it around into the right position, but that doesn’t always work depending on the lingerie. Thankfully, this piece has enough stretch and give and strength to endure that work-around. Once I was finally in and had it positioned and adjusted comfortably, I could take in all of its beauty. I have a bigger chest, so having an actual padded cup support in this piece was a real treat, I’m typically a 34DD (but a little lopsided), so I sometimes find it tricky to find lingerie that doesn’t make that too obvious. Having padded cups, let me manoeuvre a little to disguise that. Not that it’s an issue in general, but it can be a sensitivity of mine. Oddly from the front it looks great, but from the side, with my larger chest, it sure does look like a boob shelf. Maybe because of the built in support of the cups, plus the ribbing drawing in the waist a little. And then you have the bodice being in black while the cups are in red which draws attention to the chest also. What’s nice is the red sash/belt plays the fun trick of drawing the waist in a little, and ties in the red lines of the straps/cups/ribs/ suspenders. I have red and black stockings and it does work well with both, but found that black made it more sophisticated while red was a little more devilish. It very much has a sort of Victorian Madame vibe in my opinion. And looks particularly gorgeous in the back. The red line of the straps travel down the back, following your curves and right into the suspenders, which again gives some illusions about your body shape which are ultimately positive. Even with a decent amount of ribbing and lace, it is actually incredibly soft and comfortable. I didn’t notice anything digging in anywhere or any discomfort from the underwire either. There was no exposed lace that rubbed or irritated sensitive skin, it was just downright comfortable.This extended also to the underwear, which is a pretty common gripe with me in many lingerie reviews. They’re actually unlike any I’ve had from any previous orders. They’re perfectly tied into the lingerie, as in there is a red elasticated waist, identical to the shoulder straps of the main bodice. Down to the ability to adjust the length of the straps to adapt to wearers with wider or narrower hips – which helps so much to make them comfortable to wear. They’re fairly high-waisted, on me at least, and where the red strap attaches to the black lacy part of the underwear, its on a matching gold O-ring so you can adjust even where the straps fall, without affecting the integrity of the design or making the fabric fold. It’s actually one of the more intelligent designs I’ve seen in lingerie underwear especially. Plus it isn’t too narrow to give you that real awful wedgie feeling. And because the bodice of the basque falls nicely along the top of the butt, the line of the underwear parallels the earlier mentioned red strapping down the back for some really nice divisive lines that give you a nice shape. Aside from the lace, the bra part is also adorned with tiny black bows by the strap, one holding the trademark lovehoney charm in gold, and a lovely little tassel between the cups, which I honestly sort of adore. These little elements really soften the whole piece.I’m 5’4″ and the basque falls just at my hipbone, and around the top of my butt at the back. The shoulder straps are fully adjustable, and the hooks along the back have three intervals to make up for different sizes just like a standard basque. I’m also typically somewhere between a 12 and 14 and opted for the large, and found it was a great fit for me, especially with how adjustable the piece is. I opted for the tightest hooks along the body. The black panels are a layer of semi opaque soft lacey material that is just sheer enough to show off things like tattoos, and they’re broken up by the red satin ribbing and sections of lace along the front centre. Lace also adorns the bottom of the basque and adds a nice frilly wave along the end.The only thing I possibly don’t like about it, is the stitching along the centre lace – and this is entirely personal – almost looks like a sort of vaginal image when on. The thick dark stitching line of gathered lace along the middle and then red circling around that.

The item I have is a size large, for context I am a size 12-14 DD/E cup.First off this is beautiful. The red cups, straps,and piping are deep and rich with a slight satin sheen and would look gorgeous against anyones skin. The lace trim running down the center, edges of the cups and bottom is soft yet quite a dense pattern- which contrasts beautifully. On the whole this garment looks expensive.I was concerned that the band around the waist is sewn in, and while it has some give it’s not totally elasticated. Once on the band is genius, it gives clear definition and because it’s a sewn in and not overly stretchy it fits perfectly every time.The cups give amazing lift and shape, a little small for me but this is a bedroom piece and I’m the only one who would notice that! Gorgeous item, gives shape and definition to every part of my body it touched. The illusion was so great I was sad at my not so svelte shape when I took it off

A wow piece of lingerie
Ok so by the pictures you can see how sexy this basque is. In person you can appreciate it so much more. It is stunning.I am a dress size 18/20, bra size 38/40C and 5ft9 tall. I have this basque in size 1x/2x. The basque fitted me well and I was very impressed by its length. It’s probably one of the longest basque I own and covers the bottom of my tummy which is quite important to me. I wore it on the loosest or the three options and it cinched me in at the waist perfectly. The thick red band around the waist is so flattering. The straps are nice and thick and offer great bust support. I have to say this basque did amazing things for the appearance of my boobs. It gave my breasts an instant lift and gave me a sexy cleavage.The lace detailing is beautiful and I love the lace thrill at the bottom.The colours are stunning and create a real statement look.The suspenders are detachable however I love them, the gold adjusters look rely pretty.An extra bonus is it comes with undies which are of a lovely quality. Here comes a burlesque beauty
So, this is my revised review – I may have been a little too harsh with my original one. I love the design of this, the black and red combo is super sexy. Throw on a feather boa, some hold ups (fishnets if you’re in that super kinky mood, some high heels and you’ll look like a burlesque goddess! I’m 5ft 11, size 16 top, 18/20 bottom with 36Ds. Length wise, this is pretty decent. My butt is still well out. But at the front, pretty good coverage. I do have the straps on the maximum length though.Cup size – these seem smaller compared to other similar products I have. After a massive amount of adjusting (back hooks and straps), I have just about made these work for me. I still have a bit of side boob on the go and it almost feels like it’s not quite wide enough (not band width, but cup width). It’s kinda hard to explain, it’s just feels different to other products I’ve tried. I would be slightly wary if you have large boobies as you may struggle.Middle red banding. Going to be honest. Not a fan of this. It gives me bulges in the wrong places. However! On the front, it is attached by a small piece of thread. I cut it. You are then able to give the band and bit more mobility and sit in in a place suited to your body type. Lovehoney designers, take note… As we’re all different shapes and sizes, I do wonder if a separate band (one that you can attach separately) may help with this.Overall – do I like it… Kinda? After a few tries on, it has grown on me. The cups and the banding do let it down, but it’s actually a nice piece and would wear it again.

Fit for an empress
This gorgeous set was offered to me in exchange for an honest review, so like any sane person, I said YES! Thanks, Lovehoney. It arrived in the normal plain and easily recycled cardboard box and was packaged in a clear plastic bag. As soon as I took it out of the bag I could see that this is a beautiful and quality item. The Empress name certainly suits it. The basque has a pleated red satin and lace padded bra with a beautiful matching satin sash-type belt attached to it. Matching red satin goes down the centre panel and is covered with black lace. Add matching detachable suspenders, boning and straps and you have a stunning eye-catching trim. The body is a quality black stretchy mesh that’s trimmed at the bottom with flirty lace that also trims the cups and the centre panel. The boning gave me a great shape accentuated by the red satin covering and centre panel. The sash accentuated my waist and everything was held securely but very comfortably in place by the mesh. The rear fastening has three adjustments all the way down the sixteen hooks and eyes (adds to the tease when my partner takes it off me but admittedly a bit of a pain to do up – so worth it, though) so I could wear it tighter or looser for comfort or shape. The shoulder straps are also fully adjustable with standard sliders as are the suspender straps. The matching g-string is gorgeous. The side straps again are adjustable and the lace is lovely. I really appreciate the amount of adjustment this has as tight elastic cutting into me is not something I find sexy. I’m an 18/20 in most brands and am fairly ‘hippy’ but there was plenty of room for me. The attention to detail on this set makes it more luxurious than your average set. From the sexy little tassel between the cups to the gold sliders to the amount of lace used and satin pleating on the cups and the amount of adjustment, well, it just screams quality. It’s a shame to save it for the bedroom!For me, there was one little hiccup. The bra cups were too small. I’ve often said my partner loves a bit of overspill but there was quite a bit for me in this set. I think this may be due to the amount of padding (smaller busted ladies will LOVE this basque) but also the wires, when compared to a few of my 38DD high street brand bras are smaller. They don’t quite reach around under my breasts to allow them to fit in properly. Still, it is an absolutely stunning set and for the amount of time it was on me it wasn’t uncomfortable and the overspill allowed a sexy peek of nipple over the top. And as sexy is what this is all about I can definitely live with it.

Comfortable, supportive and sexy
I’m a 32DD and 5’3, and the medium fitted perfectly. The basque did need some fiddling about with to get it to fit right, but it didn’t take too long, although I did need some help to do it up!The cups are incredibly supportive, so I’d really recommend for anyone needing extra support. The whole basque looked great on, I was initially worried that the middle band would be a bit tight or not fit quite right, but it was very comfortable and looked great!The material is great quality and hardwearing. The basque doesn’t feel like it could accidently tear or rip and the clasps at the back don’t seem likely to come undone unintentionally. The colours are very bold and does have the wow factor for a first impression, its just a bit harder to get that first impression when you need help to do it up!The thong had a bit more fabric than most do, and obviously wasn’t a cheap fabric, but I ended up not wearing it most of the time, it can be a bit of a pain to get off while wearing stockings!I’d recommend this for someone wanting something supportive and sexy, but you’ll probably need help getting it on so its probably not a surprise piece!

I bought this gorgeous set for a boudoir photo shoot I was talked into doing, the colours are what attracted me to it first, black is known to slim and red is associated with sex and romance. Now as a larger girl I have never been body confident but this basque made me feel extremely sexy which I didn’t think was possible, the fit was perfect it gently wrapped around, easy to get on and off and felt very comfortable on, I could have stayed in it all day (if I didn’t have the thought of being pulled over by police on the M6) The band round the middle sits beautifully and has a little give to allow for us girls carrying that extra love. I matched this set with the Lovehoney Sheer Black Lace Top Thigh High stockings. I would give it 10/10 and recommend to any lady wanting to feel sexy and empowered or recommend to any partner wanting to buy it as a gift.

Sizing needs overhauled!
Am a size 10-12 and had to buy a large!! I knew from a previous gift a medium would be far too small. Sizing is way off. Even then the large was v tight around the waste but the cup size a bit too big. Lovely item but love honey please review your sizing labels.

Gorgeous design, made me feel incredibly sexy paired with stockings. Made my cleavage look great. Think this item is stunning (as does my partner), has a very nice sexy feel and is well made. Purchased in the sale so that’s a bonus! Coloured boning is a very nice detail as is the sash BUT the metal details look very cheap in real life. Would probably look better if they were silver and not coloured a tacky gold. Only little details so doesn’t detract too much from how stunning the rest of this is. Also really love the thong that comes with it, feels super sexy when on. Like most of these my boobs fall out but I am an F cup and dress size 8-10 so not uncommon 😂

The cups are underwired but comfortably so, while also decently padded to give that lift. The straps sit well and are adjustable, so the tighter the strap, the bigger the boost.The entire basque is secured by a rather large amount of hook & eye fastenings, and as I didn’t have a helping hand, this was a secure-back-to-front and shimmy-around-the-body job which I have now mastered. At size 10 on top, 12 bottoms, 5ft6 and the 36C bust as previously mentioned, I did find the basque to be slightly on the snugger side in the Medium I received. This was only really in the main body (my boobs looked great..) but the basque can still be worn comfortably. It’s quite a stiff piece of lingerie, however that is the nature of basques with the boning that runs throughout. The boning gives great shaping and support, it just doesn’t provide much room for movement. I adore the choice of materials, with the satin-soft cups and waistband, mesh panelling, and the lace detailing on the cups, body and trim. The colours are an equally sultry and romantic choice. The basque sits atop my bum (with the lace framing it very nicely!), and the removable suspender straps almost continue the red detailing running down the body. I love that the straps are removable, and the pop of red is very fun. The thong included continues the black, red and lace theme and pairs perfectly with the basque. It’s also adjustable so provides a little leeway in sizing, although fits me absolutely fine. A pair of stockings suits the set very well, and I really hope to dress it up with heels, matching nails, and some red lippy.

Disappointed and flustered.
It is not often than I would write a so so review for lingerie but afraid this is one of those occasions. When it arrived I was impressed by the quality and the look. It was a surprise for the OH so I did not want him to see it beforehand so did not want to ask for help getting into it. Well I struggled to get into it but I knew I had ordered the right size (18/20) I am a small 18. However the bust was a little on the large side.Once on it looked great so I put the stockings on but to my disappointment the actual suspenders appeared too small to hold the stockings in place. After some effort I managed to get them to hold but seconds later they popped off. I gave up in the end and removed the suspenders. Husband said it looked stunning but I was so hot and bothered I had to have a lie down.

I ordered this basque for a Gothic photo shoot and loved the red waist band as review said it would cinch my waist. I originally ordered the Large as I’m a size 16 but when it arrived couldn’t fastened it at the back so returned for a 1X/2X I’m a 36F. It’s really flattering and even the string is adjustable. The satin cup adds a lush touch. Wish the waist and wasn’t so crunched up though.
