    Form, function and aesthetics

For a two cuff spreader bar, it’s hard to find fault with the 20” Dominix Deluxe Adjustable Spreader Bar with Heavy Leather Cuffs.  I don’t normally start a review with a summary, but I’m struggling to think of ways to keep you guessing about this particular product.  It’s well made, looks great, is comfortable and it functions as you would hope it would.  In fact, the only reason why I wouldn’t recommend this product is if you wanted something else, for example a spreader bar with four cuffs, not two. You can tell straight away that the company who make these have an interest in BDSM and haven’t just read about it in a book.  And form is everything, with this type of product.  With some items, looks are very important.  I wouldn’t buy a collar or some underwear, if it didn’t look the part.  Of course, function is also important with these products too, but I’d rather compromise a little on comfort or function and have something that looks good.  Not so with something like this.  With this kind of device, form is everything.  If it doesn’t work, it’s no good.  Like a chastity device, if it doesn’t fulfil it’s function 100%, then it’s no good at all.  It’s all very well looking good, but if you need an item to be secure or strong, aesthetics will never compensate. With that in mind, I’m pleased to say that the Dominix is supremely crafted.  The main bars are made from steel (with a hard wearing, brushed finish), so are extremely strong.  There won’t be any bending or snapping, unless you’re Geoff Capes… I’ve tried.  And there’s no escaping from the thick leather cuffs, either.  Once you’re in, you’re in.  Now, as mentioned earlier, this product is meant to be functional.  It’s not style over substance, like some items.  It’s designed to keep you in place.  There are no sharp edges or imperfections and it looks great, but form has definitely taken precedence. That said, it does look fantastic.  It looks rugged, of course. But that’s the aim.  It’s not designed to look like a delicate, pretty item.  It’s designed to look like it means business, and it does. The Dominix is adjustable from 14 to 20 inches, via a small screw that you can undo, before sliding into the right place.  There are three holes, each three inches apart which you can slide the screw into before tightening firmly.  I’m a big guy, so 14 and 17 inches seem a little small.  20 inches is much better.  To be honest, I would probably prefer something wider still, but it’s all about personal preference.  As with any toy or product, please be sure it’s the right size for you before ordering.  At any rate, Dominix do produce a whopping 46 inch spreader bar, should you require one. At each end of the bar, a sturdy, thick leather cuff is attached. The leather is padded and about 1/3 inches (approximately 10mm) thick.  When measuring the size of the cuffs, there was no way to actually use the nearest hole to the buckle, but I managed to use the second smallest size, which was about 4.5” (approximately 120mm) and the largest size was about 10” (approximately 260mm).  The largest size left a gap in the padded cuffs though, so if you are likely to need that size, it probably won’t be as comfortable as if you were smaller.  There are eight holes in total, but I could only manage to use the biggest seven. One thing I particularly like about this design, is that the cuffs can move and twist around completely, without having to remove them form the bar.  Many spreader bars have fixed cuffs that can’t be moved or, if they can, they need to be taken apart and put back together.  Not so with this one.  With the Dominix, both cuffs happily move around without needing any kind of adjustment.  This isn’t really an issue for most of the time and is the sort of detail you may never notice but, if you don’t have versatility such as this and you try to change position during sex, then you’ll notice when you don’t have it.  Because of the ease of movement, it’s easy to switch positions without having to take the cuffs off, adjust the bar, then put them back on again, which is a real mood killer. Now should you still wish to remove the cuffs, you can do.  There are two small bolts that you can undo with a 10mm spanner (or an adjustable wrench).  If you undo one of them, you can pull out the bolt and remove the cuffs completely, but I’m not sure you’d ever need to do that unless you need different size cuffs.  I don’t think I ever will again. Aside from the functional design, they are extremely comfortable.  They feel amazing around my wrists and ankles.  The leather is strong, but very soft and the buckles are large, sturdy and easy to use.  When I’m locked in them, I don’t feel like there’s a limit to the amount of time I’d be able to stay in them.  Of course, what’s being inflicted upon you whilst you’re tied down may have an ‘impact’ on that… The only real item I’d draw your attention to with this product is the inability to attach another pair of cuffs. Another couple of rotatable rings attached to the bar that enable the owner to buy (and attach) a couple of extra cuffs in the future would be great.  That said, I know many people dislike four cuff spreader bars due to the position they put you in if you’re locked in them, so I can’t really call this a criticism, merely an observation.  Of course, you could drill a couple of holes and attach them yourself with a couple of bolts, but if I’m going to spend a decent amount of cash on a top of the line product, I don’t want to have to make any changes to it myself, certainly not any that require power tools (much as I love them!). If Dominix drilled a couple more holes and provided a couple of D rings to attach to the bars that enabled owners to attach additional cuffs at a later date, this product would be about perfect.  However, if you don’t have any need for that, of if you’re happy to purchase another spreader bar down the line for that, then this is ideal. Personally, I’d rather have this product that I know works (and works well) than a four cuff ankle and wrist spreader bar of an inferior quality.

    Sturdy, soft cuffs but difficult

So my OH dear anted to try a spreader bar after watching fifty shades, I couldn’t find one like in the film so we settled with this one. It has very soft cuffs which are easy to use because of the buckle. The bar is very sturdy and strong which is perfect, we did find a couple issues, the lock is a bit rubbish as it is just a bolt which you screw into one of the holes when you eventually find while trying to lock it. Second it is not quite long enough so it doesn’t leave them completely exposed like it’s supposed to.

    Amazing

I wish I bought this sooner!! The leather cuffs on this product are very comfortable and easy to slip on and off. I could wear them for a long period of time with no problem. The adjustable bar has 3 different lengths and is easy to readjust. Folds down enough that it is easy to store. Was discreetly packaged and delivered in no time. Completely worth every penny!! If you want to buy a spreader bar this is the one to get! You wont regret it.

Good quality spreader bar, not for heavy BDSM

This spreader bar is a lot more sturdy than other ones I’ve seen. It is heavy and feels good quality. The cuffs are attached with solid metal rather than chains, so there is more rigidity and you are held in place effectively. The metal on metal does cause a lot of clinking – this isn’t a very quiet option. The cuffs are sturdy and feel high quality. They are also suitable for small ankles, which is often a problem for me. As the cuffs are padded, you can wear this comfortably for a long duration. If you don’t like them to be too comfy, you can swap out the cuffs for unpadded ones/rope as they are on a bolt, but considering the price of these, you would probably be better just getting a different bar. They also don’t come with an inbuilt lock, but you could add a padlock on each cuff if you wanted. I don’t mind them not being lockable – they stay in place well anyway. The bar doesn’t go extend out as long as I would have liked, but because the cuffs are attached with solid metal rather than chains, the length of the bar is the actual length that your legs are spread. This is unlike a lot of spreader bars where you can pull your legs together again up to the length of the chains.

Does what it says on the tin.

It spreads. In fact – it may just be the best spreading device that was designed for spreading that Ive ever used to spread anything apart. Particularly good at spreading legs. I think it might be because of the handy leg cuffs that you put on before you start to spread.

    So much fun!

First time trying something like this and we loved it! The quality of the bar and cuffs are amazing. I love that you can expand it far, mostly for legs/ankles, and then compress it so it is smaller, perfect for wrists/arm!

    Simple, yet effective.

The heavy leather cuffs are incredibly comfortable and securely hold the wrists or ankles in place during play. They’re adjustable, ensuring a snug fit without sacrificing comfort or safety. The added padding inside the cuffs prevents any discomfort or chafing, even during prolonged use.The bar itself is very sturdy. To ensure maximum comfort and also satisfactory spread, it may take a couple of minutes to set it up, however, it works really well once it’s set up and feels very secure. We feel very comfortable while wearing it.One of the only downsides that we found is that there are no o-rings in the middle of the bar for additional gear attachments. Especially at a higher price point than many other spreader bars. This is a feature that a lot of other spreader bars have, and we found that we missed it. Having said all this, we still can say that we recommend this bar whether you’re a seasoned enthusiast or new to the world of bondage play. It’s a must-have addition to any collection and offers endless possibilities for exploration and pleasure.

    Made me feel totally dominated

Bought this for a naughty weekend away and can’t wait to use it again. Being an older woman, it actually made it easier for me to keep my legs up, just by holding the bar and pulling it towards me, so my partner could thrust as deep and hard as possible. Probably the hardest roughest sex we’ve had, along with all the other stuff we bought from LH. Had a laugh trying to walk in it; felt like a prisoner in shackles. The cuffs were surprisingly comfortable around my legs too. Actually I think this will be great to use in a number of different positions. Loved it!
